Did you know that Mexico has been making wine for 500 years? It is true! The first grape vines in North America were planted in Mexico in 1521. From there, viticulture spread across the continent, all the way up through California and into Canada. In this course, Max Murphy and Kenya Medina, the founders of Tozi Imports, will walk the class through the history of Mexican Wine, the different wine regions in Mexico, and the many grape varietals used in Mexican Wine today.
Participants will taste wines from across the country, ranging from the Valle de Guadalupe along the Pacific coast to mountains of Zacatecas, over 7,500 feet above sea level. We will try wines from semi-arid, almost desert regions as well as lush valleys. Along the way, you will gain an appreciation for this under-represented winemaking country.
You can choose to take this class at Commonwealth Wine School or Online through Zoom. Tastings are provided as part of the in-person class, or you may choose to purchase a tasting kit through a local retailer. Details will be provided before class.
