To Oak...Or Not to Oak? [April 8]
Friday, April 8, 6:30 - 8pm
We love photos of cellars full of oak barrels - those immaculate cellars with wine stained barrels all lined up, waiting to be savored and celebrated are beautiful to behold. They also hold many secrets in the winemaking process. They are especially intriguing when you begin to learn about the way wineries use oak, which type is oak they use (American vs French, new vs old, etc) and how oak-aging affects wine. All these decisions make an enormous difference in how a wine tastes.
In this class, we will taste a range of oaked and un-oaked wines and discuss the impact oak fermentation and aging has on wine.
You can choose to take this course in person at Commonwealth Wine School or online. If you choose the online option, we will provide you with tasting lists so that you may purchase wine to taste along at home.
