Wine on the Rocks: Volcanic Wines from Volcanic Soils [Nov 17]

Friday, November 17, 6-7:30pm ET

Let’s jump right into the fire. John Szabo, Master Sommelier, describes the wines from volcanic soils as having “salt, grit, and power”, but how do volcanoes form? What are volcanic soil types and how can that impact a wine’s flavor?

In order to dive deeper into these questions, we will go volcano and wine exploring. We will visit the sun-kissed island of Santorini, Greece. We will climb up the trails of Mount Etna. Of course, we will “meet” some of these brave vignerons farming in the shadow of “still active” volcanos. We will discover the ancient volcanic areas of Fiano, Greco, Taburno and Taurasi in Campania. And the grand finale - a Lake County Cabernet Sauvignon from right here in California, USA.

Join instructor Jo-Ann Ross, as we uncover the mystery, and beauty, or wines grown in these formidable locations.

Cost: $85 In-Person
