Wines of Mexico [December 2]

Friday, December 2nd, 6:30-8pm

Did you know that Mexico has been making wine for over 500 years? While a relative newcomer to the international wine scene, Mexico has a rich history of winemaking going back to 1521. Max Murphy and Kenya Medina founded Tozi Imports in 2019 in order to tell Boston the wonderful story of Mexican Wine. This class will introduce you to Mexico's many winemaking regions. Baja is the most recognized, and its location next to the Pacific Ocean gives it a beautiful, Mediterranean growing climate. However, relatively unknown Central Mexico states such as Queretaro, Guanajuato, Zacatecas, and Aguascalientes produce excellent wines as well, and their winemakers must take into consideration extreme elevations, arid climates, and hot temperatures. This results in an extremely wide range of styles!

This class will also discuss the history of Mexican Wine, how the industry has developed and evolved over time, and also the many grape varietal blending philosophies that are used only in Mexico. In short, this class should serve as an opportunity to open your eyes to an exciting new part of the wine world!

You can choose to take this class at Commonwealth Wine School or Online through Zoom. For those who choose to register for the online class only, wine lists will be provided ahead of time so that you may taste along at home.
