WSET Level 3 delivers an in-depth education experience that reflects today’s dynamic wine industry. The Level 3 certificate is one of the most globally-recognized achievements in wine and is geared towards professionals or people interested in entering the wine industry, especially those looking for increased leadership and decision-making. Wine enthusiasts with a serious commitment will also enjoy this course, as it is interactive and customized to individual class dynamics and interests.

You’ll embark on an examination of the options and limitations available to producers of every major world wine region, including France, Italy, Spain, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. For each region we examine the natural and human factors that impact wine style, quality, and price.

Students who successfully pass a final examination, including a written and tasting portion, are entitled to the title “WSET Level 3 Certified” and to use the WSET logo on their professional materials.

How Does Self Study Work?

The course is based around a nine-week structured online program with a recommendation of 10 hours study per week to cover the online activities and read the relevant chapters in the textbook.

The course follows a weekly structure and it is important to keep up with the work set for that week. The educator is not obliged to assess the student’s work if they fall behind. Regular access and participation in the course online activities is essential for this mode of study.

The course prepares the student for the WSET Level 3 qualification and they are guided by a WSET educator. The student can contact the educator any time for the duration of the scheduled course, should they have any questions. Each week includes a series of independent activities that guide the student through the key wine regions of the world looking at the factors in the vineyard and winery that influence wine styles. Students should be advised to taste a range of wines during their studies. Commonwealth Wine School will provide an online tasting tutorial as well. A list of recommended tasting samples can be found in the specification. Students can post their tasting notes in the Online Classroom for review by the educator.
