Explore the wines of Argentina in this exciting small group tour with Mendoza resident and South American wine expert Amanda Barnes.

In an action-packed week, we will visit all the wine regions of Mendoza — from the best known to some off-the-beaten-track! We will be visiting a mixture of large and small producers, and spend time with winemakers and agronomists learning the secrets of what makes Argentina’s wines unique. It goes without saying that we will also be tasting the very best wines of Argentina…

We will also have plenty of time to explore the gorgeous landscapes of Mendoza and San Juan, with a road trip through the Andes, and even a visit to the hot springs. There will be plenty of gastronomy highlights, from the traditional Argentine asado and steak, to fine dining in Michelin restaurants!

Welcome to Mendoza! The land of sol y vino!

We will spend the evening with our host Amanda Barnes who will set the scene for our week in Argentina, with a special dinner that explores the history of wine in Argentina as well as its future. We will taste a host of wines from all around the country for this immersive masterclass while delighting on the contemporary Argentine cuisine of one of Mendoza’s Michelin recommended restaurants, Centauro.

Sunday 15 November - exploring the history of Maipu and a field trip into the east of Mendoza!

Early AM at leisure

11am departure - We’ll start from the beginning, getting to understand the history of wine in Argentina and visiting the old vines of Maipu, Eastern Mendoza and Lavalle. Amanda is going to take us to some parts of the wine regions which are rarely explored by tourists, seeing the real side of Mendoza’s wine production and spending time with some of the key winemakers in the region.

We’ll visit the historic winery of Trapiche with its train line that used to run between the cellar and the city, and dive into the story of the east and north with some of the most exciting new generation of the region.

We will finish with a traditional Argentine asado with the winemakers, where we can learn some expert cooking tips and recipes to take home!

Monday 17th - the legends of Lujan de Cuyo: Agrelo & Pedriel

9.30am departure

We will take in some of the top wineries of the renowned region of Lujan de Cuyo, where Malbec really made its name. Visiting three wineries, Amanda will be touring us through some of the most renowned producers and guardians of Lujan de Cuyo — old vines and new. With a focus on the Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends that made the region famous, as well as some of the emerging new styles.

A slap up winery lunch will be included, so make sure you leave room at breakfast!

Tuesday 28th — an adventure into the Andes

9am departure

We are going to set off on a high altitude adventure… to understand why the Andes are so important to the wine regions of Argentina, and experience some of their majesty. Taking the mountain roads we will head up into the Andes to the mountain town of Uspallata. After a quick coffee break in Uspallata (around 11am), we will go to the Aconcagua visitor’s park to stretch our legs and look at peak of Aconcagua (hopefully! weather permitting!), the tallest mountain beyond the Himalayas (approx 12).

On our return to Uspallata, we will have lunch at the stunning vineyard of Estancia Uspallata (approx 2pm), where some of Mendoza’s highest altitude and unique vineyards are hidden. After lunch we will take the mountain road down to Barreal, where we will visit the famous Pampa del Leoncito National Park. (approx 5pm).

During the evening we will stay at Paso de los Patos rural hotel and enjoy sunset drinks by the mountains followed by dinner in the hotel with other wines from the region of San Juan with a casual dinner-side masterclass on San Juan by Amanda.

We will be staying in the peace and quiet of the mountains, where enjoying some quiet time to yourself under the incredible stars is well recommended!

Wednesday 19th - taking in the old vines of Barreal, San Juan & the hot springs!

10am departure (time for an early hike in the morning if you choose!)

We will start our day visiting the old vines of Barreal and two of the most renowned wineries — Cara Sur and Los Dragones — with a tasting of their wines and visit to the wineries. Hopefully we will be lucky enough to catch some of the harvest action as the grapes come in!

As well as wine tasting, we will have a light lunch before we make our way back down to Mendoza (departing around 12). We will drive on the picturesque route via the beautiful Potrerillos lake, which is home to a new, pioneering vineyard, and onwards to the hot springs of Cachueta. At Cachueta we will stop for an afternoon spa in the natural hot springs (3 - 6 pm) of the hotel. After a good soak in the springs, we will return to Mendoza City.

Thursday 20th - Las Compuertas & Vistalba

Free morning

12.30 departure

We’ll be deep diving into the wine regions of Las Compuertas and Vistalba, visiting two wineries in the region for tastings and vineyard tours, before ending at the Montes’ family’s renowned Kaiken winery in Vistalba. Here we will visit the vineyards before sitting down together to enjoy a sunset dinner in the vineyards at the famous Ramos Generales restaurant of Francis Mallmann.

Friday 21st — Uco Valley deep dive!

10am departure

We will take full advantage of the day and take a dive deep into the pioneering new region of the Uco Valley. We will visit three different wineries, each exploring a different aspect of the Uco Valley terroir and story, and enjoy a light lunch between.

Our final dinner will be at the impressive Zuccardi Piedra Infinita winery, where we will watch the sun set over the Andes, and enjoy an excellent last meal together, before our late evening return to Mendoza. Bring your pillow for the van journey home — it will be a long day, but the absolute icing on the cake!

$1000 is due at the time of booking Casa Lila

$1500 is due at the time of booking Park Hyatt.

Final Payment:

The balance (based on double occupancy) is due 60 days prior to the tour, or your reservation will be released and the cancellation penalty will be applied.

CANCELLATION FEES:

Should you or any member of your party have to cancel their booking once it has been confirmed, a written notice of cancellation must be given. The effective date for cancellation is the date when we receive a written notice. Cancellation charges will apply and are detailed as follows:

  • Where one or more participants cancel their participation less than 12 weeks prior to the start date but more than 4 weeks from the start date, they will be liable to a cancellation fee of 50%.

  • Less than 4 weeks to the start date, the fee will rise to 100%.

Any increase in price payable as a result of part cancellation and/or sole occupancy, will be indicated on a revised confirmation invoice.
